FAQ

How is compound interest calculated?

Each period interest is added to the balance, so later interest earns interest too. For 10,000 at 5% a year for 10 years, compounded annually, the balance is 16,288.95.

Does compounding frequency matter?

Slightly. The same 10,000 at 5% for 10 years becomes 16,470.09 with monthly compounding instead of 16,288.95 with annual compounding.

When are monthly deposits added?

At the end of each month, after that month's interest. Depositing 100 a month at 5% for 10 years, compounded monthly, gives 15,528.23 from 12,000 deposited.
