URL Encoder, Decoder & Base64 Converter

Percent-encode or decode URLs and convert text to and from Base64. Nothing leaves your browser.

How it works

URL encoding uses your browser's built-in encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent, and text is treated as UTF-8. Base64 converts the UTF-8 bytes of your text, so accented letters and emoji round-trip correctly. URL-safe Base64 swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding.

FAQ

What is URL encoding?

URL encoding (percent-encoding) replaces characters that are not safe in a URL with a % sign and two hex digits. A space becomes %20 and an ampersand becomes %26.

What is the difference between encodeURIComponent and encodeURI?

Component mode encodes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ). Full URL mode keeps characters such as : / ? # & = so a whole address stays usable.

What is Base64 used for?

Base64 turns bytes into plain text characters. It is encoding, not encryption, so anyone can decode it. Do not use it to hide secrets.
